Covid-19: AgaMal donates to Upper West Regional Health Directorate to fight Coronavirus

As part of its corporate social responsibility to help government fight Covid-19, AngloGold Ashanti Malaria Control Programme AgaMal Ghana has donated Personal Protective Equipments PPE’s to the Upper West Regional Health Directorate as part of it’s US$ 300, 000 support package to help fight the coronavirus in the Upper West Region.

Speaking at the donation exercise at the forecourt of the Regional Health Directorate in Wa, the Programmes Director for AngloGold Ashanti Malaria Control Programme Samuel Asiedu disclosed that the support project provided by AgaMal will see the daily disinfection services to thirteen major health facilities in eleven districts and municipalities in the region.

Mr Asiedu indicated that the company will also provide nose masks and other Personal Protective Equipments PPEs to healthcare providers as well as some residents in the region.

He said the disinfection exercise is based on science and data received by the company and will see the company spraying facilities to disinfect them every evening.

The Programmes Director for AgaMal assured the health directorate that AngloGold Ashanti Malaria Control Programme will continue to support the Ghana Health Service to help bring the global pandemic under control.

Receiving the items, the Acting Upper West Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Damien Punguyire thanked AgaMal for the generosity to fight coronavirus. Dr Punguyire said the items will go a long way to assist health facilities in the region as majority of the isolation centres in the region are without beds.

The Acting Regional Director of Health disclosed that twelve out of the twenty-two COVID-19 patients recorded in the region have recovered fully and reintegrated into society.

He said the rest of the patients are asymptotic and are waiting for their last results to be discharged.

Dr. Damien appealed to residents in the region to desist from stigmatizing coronavirus patients when they are reintegrated back into society.

The items donated includes two hundred bottles of 500ml hand sanitizer, twenty-six boxes of surgical gloves, one hundred rolls of tissue Papers , two boxes of carbolic soap, seven sets of beds and mattresses, two pieces of BP apparatus, two infrared thermometers, 1 autoclave, seven packs of Toilet-roll, two sets of patient screen, two sets of medicine tray, twelve mini gallons of chlorine as well as ten boxes of bottled water.

The others are thirty sets of face shield, seven blankets and fourteen bed-sheets, thirty bottles of dettol, seven pieces of pillows and two sets of veronica buckets.
