Nadowli-Kaleo District Assembly in the Upper West Region has handed over a kindergarten block to Meguo a farming community in the District on Tuesday .
Constructed at at cost of GH¢230,000.00, the new building provides relief and serene atmosphere for teaching and learning for about 300 pupils who prior to the Assembly’s intervention did have a kindergarten block.
In her speech during the handing over ceremony, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Katherine T.Lankono said education had been her priority and she would endeavor to elevate the standard of teaching and learning in the District.
She encouraged the school going age children of the district to be serious on their books since free senior high school policy has come to complement the effort of their parents.
The Free Senior High School Policy (FSHSP), which is the flagship education programme of the New Patriot Party (NPP) government, has finally been implemented. Under the FSHSP, government will be required to foot all bills – including feeding fees, tuition fees and all other charges – with regard to students starting from the 2017/2018 academic year.
She admonished the authorities to take very good care of the structure.
The District Director of Education,Madama Mary Assumpa promised to assign teachers to the school in September for the school to start admitting children.
The Assembly member for the Siiro Electoral Area, Hon.Nantiere Cosmas appealed to the Assembly to provide them with furniture and some learning materials for the children.
The Assembly member said he is very surprise at the pace of response by the Assembly in providing them with the KG block adding that the KG block will go a long way to support children around the Siiro Electoral Area to have Kindergarten Education before advancing to the primary level.
