The paramount Chief of Duori in the Jirapa municipality of the Upper West Region, Naa Tikang Diedong Dombo has appealed to President Akufo Addo through the Upper West Regional minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih to extend development to the community in honor of the Late S.D. Dombo.
The chief mentioned that the foundation was established to “revealed Chief S. D. Dombo’s life impact in the following ways, family values and influence, the Duori community as an instrument, the northern region as a mobilizer and appreciative leader, Ghana as a legislature and in Africa as a contributor to deepening democracy and human rights.”
Speaking at Jirapa to commemorate the regional launch of the late Naa S.D. Dombo Foundation for Development and Leadership Studies, the chief indicated that, the Community faced a lot of developmental challenges notable among them are; reconstruction of Duori Dam that was serving 15 Communities during chief S.D. Dombo lifetime, renovation and upgrading of Duori Health center which was established in 1971 when chief S.D. Dombo was then minister of health under his political leadership, tarring of Duori –Jirapa and Dungmwin roads, and also, police post at Duori to combat crime.
The chief is also appealing for Technical/Vocational Institution at Duori in honor of the Late S.D. Dombo for the youth to feel his legacy.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih who was the special guest of honor at the launch, pledged government commitment to honor the late S.D. Dombo in many ways to signify what he has done for the nation particularly the Northern part of Ghana.
The minister used the “platform to call on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party in the Upper West Region to put in place measures to bring all its members on board as we prepare to execute the agenda of annexing majority of the parliamentary seats in the region. The gains made in the 2016 general election were phenomenal and we cannot afford to retrogress in the 2020 election.”
He also assured the chiefs and people of Duori that one of the dams under the One-Village one- Dam policy will be dug in Duori.
The day was also used to launch a book titled “S.D. Dombo: A Biography of An Iconic Ghanaian Statesman.” The book was auctioned at Ghc72, 000.00.
The late Simon Diedong Dombo was born in 1923 at Duori, a small town under the current Jirapa Municipality. He began his primary education at Lawra Primary School in 1935 and continued at the Tamale Government Middle Boarding School from 1940-1943. He then entered into the Tamale Government Teacher Training College and pursued a 3-year course and obtained Teachers’ Certificate ‘B’. It is worth mentioning that Dombo exhibited high quality leadership traits from infancy.
