National Chairman of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Mr. Bernard Mornah Mornah has stated that President Akufo Addo lifted the lockdown of some parts of the country to allow for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to undertake it parliamentary primaries on April 25, 2020.
Mr Mornah who is also the PNC Nadowli-Kaleo constituency parliamentary candidate on 10th April, 2020 wrote on his facebook page that “I smell a rat; the lockdown will be ease to allow the NPP Parliamentary primaries on April 25, 2020.”
He mentioned that he is not surprised that the president lifted the ban in greater Kumasi and Accra.
Mr Mornah indicated that, at the time the president ordered the lockdown, Ghana has recorded 193 positive Coronavirus cases, but questions why President Akufo Addo lifted the ban when the cases had increased to 1042.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party has said (NPP) an alleged leaked memo stipulating that it has set a new date for parliamentary primaries is false.
“The party wishes to state unequivocally that it has NOT issued any such statement/memo and there has not been any emergency National Steering Committee meeting on April 20, 2020, as claimed in the said fake statement/memo.
“Indeed, the last National Steering Committee meeting of the party was held on April 14, 2020, at which meeting, the party decided to suspend its primaries till further notice in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions imposed by the President pursuant to EI 64,” the party General Secretary, John Boadu, clarified in a press statement.
