The Ghana NGOs Coalition on the right of children has called on government to live up to it responsibility of increasing budget allocation for children protection, fully disbursing the entire child protection budget.
In a statement signed by members of NGOs coalition on the rights of children, indicated that the budgetary allocation to children is small as compare to the budget required for children’s education, health and sanitation.
The coalition has indicated that in the 2016 NPP manifesto, it has started as a party it remains committed to gender equality and children rights and will pursue full implementation of relevant acts including the human Trafficking acts. However according to the coalition government has done little in that.
‘’in 2017, GHS 72.6 million was allocated for child protection of which shockingly, only 33.1% was disbursed’’.
In her keynote address, the minister for Gender, children and Social Protection, Madam Cynthia Morison said providing the needs for children is a responsibility of everyone in the society while government provides legislations that will protect the rights of the child in Ghana
She said government of Ghana has shown it commitment in fighting for the rights of children. She said this is evident that Ghana is the first country to sign the convention on the rights of child in 1990
