The Wa Central constituency Executives of the New Patriotic Party in the Upper West region has called for the removal of the Municipal Chief Executive, Issahaku Tahiru Moomin for his uncompromising conduct towards them.
At a press conference on Thursday, the constituency executives said “any society governed by a greedy and arrogant leader is like a shaggy foundation bound to collapse at any time, just as a divided house cannot stand. But it is with so much regret to state, all is not well with Wa Central constituency, hence the compelling need as constituency executive committee to make public our grievances as required of the circumstances”.
The constituency executives said their move is the third step charted in ensuring the needs and concerns of the party people are raised and noted for redress. “With the greatest of respect Your Excellency Mr. President, this is our third step charted in ensuring the needs and concerns of party grassroots, zonal coordinators, constituency executives, elders, patrons and sympathizers are raised and noted for redress’’.
They said two petitions written to the regional minister and the office of the President yielded no results after despite interventions and efforts made by the regional minister, his deputy and the then regional chairman Alhaji Abubakari Short.
They also accused the MCE of resorting not to meet the executives ever since he assumed office. “It sounds unpleasant to the ear and senses as many may see this highly unbelievable, but the naked truth is that ever since the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Issahaku Moomen Tahiru assumed office, he has declined not to and never met with the constituency executives even once despite several attempts and invitations to him by the constituency executives.’’
The constituency executives said the MCE “has vowed never to disclose to them the developmental projects that are ongoing within the municipality. Recruitments and other employment opportunities are done without the knowledge of the executives.’’
The MCE has also been accused of taking unilateral decisions and acting clandestinely on issues bordering on jobs, recruitments and other opportunities that could have been used as avenues to assist party faithful.
They again accused the MCE of organizing thugs to beat up one Alhaj Akram who is an electoral area coordinator during their constituency elections. ‘’It is bizarre to note, the MCE himself organized thugs during the constituency elections who mercilessly beat up an electoral area coordinator “Alhaj Akram” and forcefully confiscated elections forms from the victim in the presence of the MCE.’’
They also said the MCE has refused to turn up for several occasions and programs with reasons that he had no money and yet he was able to establish his sachet water factory at the peak of the elections.
Market women the executives said “have vowed to go on a demonstration and severely punish the party come 2020, if the MCE continuous to be in office.
They called on the President to constitute a fact finding committee to probe into the concerns they raised to ascertain the truth or otherwise.
Reacting to the allegations, the MCE Issahaku Tahiru Moomen denied all assertions insisting that he is focused on delivering and making the municipality a better place to live.
“ We are serious and focused on delivering on our mandate…the struggles we went through in bringing the NPP into power is not a joke and Ghanaians are looking up to us.’’
The MCE said he is not ready to be in arms with anyone and will not allow the actions of the executives to distract him from working.
