The Sissala East Municipality of the Upper West Region has confirmed seven (7) cases of Coronavirus bringing the region count from eight to 17.
This includes two males and five females who have tested positive of the deadly virus.
The Municipal Chief Executive of the Sissala East, Karim Nanyua on Monday (4th May, 2020) convened an emergency meeting with the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Committee, where he broke the news that through routine surveillance and enhanced testing and contact tracing, seven (7) samples from the Municipality confirmed positive of COVID-19.
He added that the municipality is expected to receive test results of additional samples to be able to ascertain the level of infection in the municipality.
He revealed that all the confirmed cases are natives of the Municipality who travelled in from Accra, Kumasi and Tamale.
Out of this number, four (4) are at the quarantine centre, whereas the other three (3) are to be traced for quarantine.
He urged residents to remain calm, vigilante and desist from stigmatizing affected persons and their families as the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Committee work to contain the virus.
He further demanded from the communities to report all strangers and natives who are travelling back to their communities from other areas to be properly screen by health authorities.
The MCE entreated residents of the various communities to continue to practice the safety measures prescribed by health authorities by washing their hands frequently with soap under running water, use alcohol based sanitizers, wear nose mask and adhere to social distancing protocols.
