The 25th anniversary celebration of (Mass Media for Development) MMD Radio Progress has been launched with a nine member Anniversary Committee inaugurated by the Bishop of the Diocese of Wa Most Reverend Richard Kuuia Baawobr.
The Members of the Committee comprises the Acting Station Coordinator for Radio Progress Mr Ivan Domasaa, the Head of Programmes and News Editor Mr Morris Banaamwine, the Senior Accounts Officer Madam Mary Mumuni, Head of Marketing and Personnel Mr Paschal Nuzaala and the Head of IT and Engineering Mr Nuhu Tuurosung.
The rest are the Supervising Manager for Wa Community Cooperative Credit Union Mr Abraham Dakurah, Executive Director for Community Development Alliance-Ghana Salifu Issifu Kanton, Representative of the Regional Chief Imam Mallam Sidique and a resident Mr David Guori.
Launching the Silver Jubilee Celebration of MMD Radio Progress and Inaugurating the committee, the VICA General of the Diocese of Wa Very Reverend Father Cornelius Naah Bayirinuba on behalf of the Bishop of the Wa Diocese Most Reverend Richard Kuuia Baawobr commended members of the committee for accepting the task to organize a successful anniversary for Radio Progress.
Very Reverend Father Bayirinuba urged the committee to do a diligent work to mark the Silver Jubilee Celebration.
The Chairman of the Executive Council of Radio Progress Dr Damasus Tuurosung on behalf of the Council, Management and staff of Radio Progress commended the Pioneering Patron and Bishop Emeritus of Wa Diocese Most Reverend Paul Bemile, Pioneer Manager of Radio Progress Dr Lawrence Naaikuur, Former Executive Council Chairman Mr James Dassah, Mr Lawrence Dakurah, the late Celestine Bayor, Jacob Yiri-erong and Peter Dery and successive Directors of DEPSOCOM for making the dream of Radio Broadcast a reality as well as sowing a seed that has led to phenomenal development in the Upper West region.
Dr Tuurosung also commended the Patron and Bishop of Wa Diocese His Lordship Richard Kuuia Baawobr, past and present Executive Council Members, Management and staff for maintaining the enviable accolade of the station as the most popular, most listened and development-oriented broadcast station in the Upper West region and beyond.
He expressed gratitude to the listeners of Radio Progress, the business partners and other stakeholders in the region for keeping the Radio Progress relevant.
He noted that the the Executive Council and management of the station are working assiduously to include a Television station “Progress TV” to the existing Radio broadcasting in the coming years.
The Chairman of the 25th Anniversary Committee who doubles as the Acting Station Coordinator of Radio Progress Mr Ivan Domasaa on behalf of members of the Committee thanked the Patron of Radio Progress and Bishop of Wa Diocese His Lordship Richard Kuuia Baawobr and the Executive Council for reposing confidence in them and Members of the Committee for gracing the occasion.
Mr Domasaa urged members to put off their best and work assiduosly for a successful commemoration of the Silver Jubilee of the station.
Radio Progress which was established in 1996 was the brain-child of the Department of Social Communication DEPSOCOM of the Wa Diocese. It commenced test transmission in February and has since remained on air in the past 25 years.
The anniversary is on the theme: “Radio Progress- 25 years of pioneering community development”.
