The vigilance of the Ghana Immigration Service GIS personnel on duty at Kucheni Temporal Checkpoint in the Jirapa Municipality of the Upper West region have led to the arrest of Eighteen(18) Foreign Nationals onboard a Yutong Bus with registration number GC 5114 – Z to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. Investigations by officials of GIS in the region revealed that they entered into Ghana through unapproved routes. The purpose of their visit include business, family visits as well as medical care.
The illegal migrants aged between seven and forty-seven years includes Eleven Malian nationals, Five Guineans, One Gambian and One Sierra Leone national comprising 12 males and six females
A statement signed by the Upper West Regional Public Relations Officer of the Service Assistant Inspector Ibn Yussif Duranah Abdul-Mumin Seidu and copied to the media indicated that they were screened by the Port Health authorities before being handed over to the Burkina Faso authorities on the other side of the border at the Hamile Border Post.
Assistant Inspector Abdul-Mumin Seidu noted that whiles the personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service is determined to subdue the menace of irregular migration, they are also enforcing the President’s directive on the land borders closure with the maximum support of the Controller General of Ghana Immigration Service to combat illegal migration in the country.
